6. In the arena, Cato was remarkably close to Glimmer.
One night, when it was Clove’s turn to guard, Glimmer slept in Cato’s arm. Clove thought they were all asleep, so she muttered, “This arena. I thought it’ll be b!tch free!” Cato, whom she thought was asleep, stood up, bumping Glimmer’s head. He reached for Clove and said, “Nice try pretending you’re not hurt. You’re still the one I’m keeping alive. And no, I don’t want her to sleep in my arm. And yeah, it’s you whom I wanna sleep with.” Clove was shocked, and all she was able to say was, “I thought you were asleep.”
Cato went to the balcony of their headquarters (which is, obviously secured by the Capitol if ever tributes try to escape), holding the lone picture of him and Clove. The shot is perfect- featuring two youthful kids laughing so hard as if there’s no tomorrow. With the strong winds blowing, Cato freed the picture, thinking that it would be better off for the perfect picture to be gone with the wind than be a witness to the horrible ending they are supposed to have.
4. The night after the interview with Caesar Flickermann,
Clove went inside Cato’s bedroom, who is sleeping already. Clove leaned a little, brushed Cato’s hair and, choking back tears, whispered, “Sorry, little tomato. I just want to pretend we don’t know each other so when the time comes that you have to kill me, it wouldn’t be so hard.”
when they arrived at their training center headquarters (second floor). Cato was bothered by it, so he wrote to her and asked an avox to hand it to Clove. The note read: “Goddess of cLOVE, why are you avoiding me?” (she is used to this nickname he gave her).
(which is really short since District 2 is near to the Capitol), Clove did nothing much than lie down in her bed, realizing how awful the whole thing turned out. She always dreamt of being a tribute and dedicated her life to master the art of killing, but now all her thoughts drifted from “I will win” to “I have to die to save Cato”.
1. When Cato learned that his bestfriend Clove will come with him in the arena,
it took him 10 minutes (thanks for the special treatment of the peacekeepers to the Careers) to talk to his mom and brother, assuring them that it’ll be their last conversation because he will do anything for Clove to stay alive and win, even if it means he has to die in the hands of tributes attacking her or Clove herself.
